So I recently embarked on one of the biggest journeys in my life, to date. A one-woman play. Forty plus pages long, thirty minutes in length, ten characters in total and two weeks’ notice to show day. ‘The Last Little Girl’ is written by Kay Adshead. My performance was to be the plays debut in the UK! (No Pressure lol). Before that it had been performed in Paris, in French, for La Compagnie Yorick by a fantastic actress called Aissatou Thiam.

Creating a storyboard is a really helpful process when making your film. It is a useful map that guides you as a film maker to see your idea take shape before actually filming anything, you don't have to be the best artist to create a storyboard that is easy to understand.

3 Reasons why a Storyboard is useful

  • Helps you to plan and understand your shots
  • Helps your crew to see your vision
  • Helps to save time on set

As mentioned in my tutorial here is a free download link for Celtx. I personally recommend giving it a go when you are ready to structure your ideas from your notpad or iphone into a well formatted script that you can send to others to read.

So while still on set of another video I received a phone call from Chip, he wanted to film a quick 1 take freestyle video so my assistant director Frank and I flew up to north London after our shoot and made it happen. While filming I realised this one was going to be another 'sonic boom' from the legendary lyricist Chip.

I had the pleasure of directing the first music video for the amazing reggae inspired band Kioko. It was an absolute pleasure working with these guys to create visuals for their track 'Kiss away'.  Below are a couple photos from the shoot also check out their EP they released last year -  https://soundcloud.com/kiokomusicuk/sets/kioko-true-what-they-say-ep

Here is my personal kit list. I was able to buy my equipment over a period time so don't be discouraged if you are not starting out with an amazing camera. This list is just to give you an idea of what sort of gear you may want for your productions. Make sure you shop around for the best deals before buying your equipment. Remember, its not what you have but how you use it.
